Father's Day Gift: County Sponsors "Father-Child" Tournament

at Cantiague Park Nine-Hole Golf Course

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano announces that the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums will host a “Father-Child” Golf Tournament at the Cantiague Park nine-hole course in Hicksville the day before Father’s Day, on Saturday, June 18.

The tournament consists of two-to-four-person teams from the same family, made up of a father and his children. The tournament will take place from 6:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (last tee), with prizes given to the first- and second-place finishers in both “gross score” and handicap brackets.

Regular course fees apply ($15 per player with Leisure Pass; $39 for those without a Leisure Pass; and $17 for a cart), plus an additional $10 for an awards ceremony, a barbecue and beverages from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A golf clinic will also be offered during that time period. Sign-up can be done in advance at the course or on the day of the event.

“This program provides a wonderful and unique opportunity for dads and their children to spend quality and fun time together the day before Father’s Day,” says County Executive Ed Mangano. “Cantiague is a perfect course for the occasion, as it is suitable for players at various skill levels and centrally located in the County. We also encourage participants to return to the course and take part in the barbecue and awards ceremony in the early evening.”

Cantiague Park’s par-30 golf course offers a flat and easy-to-traverse property, with total yardage of 1,878. For more information about the Father-Child Golf Tournament, call (516) 571-7061.

The county also manages three other nine-hole courses, each offering a different playing experience. The Bay Park course in East Rockaway (571-7242) is located by the water and has two holes over 300 yards, with total yardage of 1,956. In Roslyn-North Hills, the Christopher Morley Park course (571-8120), at 1,603 yards, is a small but hilly and surrounded by trees. At 2,282 yards, North Woodmere Park’s course (571-7814) is the largest of the nine holes, with four holes over 300 yards, two of which approach 400 yards. Like Bay Park, the course is located by the water. All the courses are par-30, with the exception of North Woodmere, which is par-31.
