Nassau County Parks Provide Opportunities to Work Off That Thanksgiving Meal

If you’re looking to work off some of the extra calories from that big Thanksgiving meal, the Parks Department will be back in business the day after Thanksgiving to provide some help.

The Nassau County Aquatic Center (516-572-0501), one of the finest swimming facilities in the metropolitan area, resumes its regular schedule following a Thanksgiving closure, offering swimming as well as on-land exercise in the fitness center. The Aquatic Center, which has memberships and daily entrance fees, is located in Eisenhower Park on Merrick Avenue.

The recently renovated indoor ice skating rink at Cantiague Park in Hicksville (571-7056) will also open for its usual daily schedule following a Thanksgiving closure, while the outdoor rinks at Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn-North Hills (571-8113) and Grant Park in Hewlett (571-7821) are scheduled to open for the winter season on Saturday, November 27, weather permitting.

The County’s golf courses will resume their regular schedules after Thanksgiving, but several will also be open on shortened schedules on Thanksgiving Day, including the 18-hole courses in Eisenhower Park (572-0327/28) and the nine-hole courses at Cantiague (571-7061), and North Woodmere (571-7814) parks. The courses at Bay (571-7242) and Christopher Morley (571-8120) parks will be closed on Thanksgiving.

Residents can also take advantage of fitness trails at Christopher Morley, Eisenhower and Wantagh parks to burn a few calories.
