Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the County Parks’ International Music Nights Concert Series will kick off this year on Sunday, June 2nd at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park. The International Music Nights Concert Series provides residents an opportunity to experience the broad range of cultures that Nassau County has to offer.

The Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged
Albertson, N.Y. – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano has announced that with a Main Event Sponsorship from NBTY Helping Hands, Nassau County will once again host the Games for the Physically Challenged. The Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged will take place this year from May 30th through June 1st.

Build a rocket in our museum workshop! Add a parachute, streamers, wings, or fins to keep your rocket aloft. The bottle rockets will be filled partially with water, attached to an air compressor, and then launched off the museum’s launch pad with the guidance of museum staff. Limit one rocket per participant.
The goal of this contest will be to keep your bottle rocket in the air for as long as possible. Compete to win a rocket trophy!
Free with museum admission, pre-registration is required.

Garvies Point Children’s Summer Workshops
Garvies Point Museum & Preserve, 50 Barry Drive, Glen Cove, NY is once again offering our popular Children’s Summer Workshops, hands-on activities for children ages 5-7 and 8-12, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in July and August. First session begins July 9 at 9:30 am.
Our workshops include Nature I: pond study, exploring the woods, flowers & weeds. Nature II: beach ecology, beginner’s birding, investigating butterflies & bugs. Geology: rocks & minerals, erosion & fossils, L.I. formation. Native American: culture, games, fire, pottery, tools, survival skills.

MILE-A-MINUTE REMOVAL DAY
Mile-a-minute, as its name implies is a quick growing vine that grows in open areas and smothers underlying plants. Learn how to identify native and non-native plants plus important removal techniques. Volunteers are welcome throughout the day, we ask that you bring work or garden gloves, any clippers available, wear sneakers, socks, hat, light colored clothing, long pants, bring a bag lunch and water if desired. Mangano Announces the Re-Opening of the Bats Exhibit at Tackapausha Museum and Preserve
Come and see a live family of Egyptian Fruit Bats as they fly and “hang out” in the Museum’s nocturnal area. The Egyptian Fruit Bats, like their name suggests are fruit eaters, consuming large amounts of grapes, cantaloupe, and bananas among other fruit. Long Island is home to several species of bats, mainly insect eaters, like the Little Brown Bat, which eat large amounts of mosquitos.
