If You Disagree With Your Assessment
You have a legal right to protest your assessment. The grievance period is the time for filing such protests. It extends from January 2, 2008 to March 3, 2008 inclusive. Protest forms may be obtained from the Department's office at 240 Old Country Road between 9:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the filing period, or the Assessment Review Commission.
The independent Assessment Review Commission (ARC) is responsible for the decisions made on these protests. The Commission may order the Department to reduce your assessment prior to the final roll of April 1st, but cannot order it raised. The ARC is a year round commission which can review the assessed valuations for grievances which were filed between January 2nd - March 3rd. Contact ARC at (516) 571-2391 for further info.
When you file your protest, you may request a hearing before the ARC. Your protest application must be received by March 3, 2008.
