(Mineola, NY) Nassau County Assessor Harvey Levinson, in cooperation with the Hempstead Public School District and Legislators Roger Corbin (2nd District) and Kevan Abrahams (1st District), will be conducting a special School Property Tax Relief (STAR) registration program at Hempstead Senior High School located at 201 President Street on Thursday, September 30th, from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
"The STAR program is a gift from the State of New York and could save qualifying homeowners in the Hempstead School District - who have never applied for the exemption - approximately $1,442 off of their 2004-05 School Tax Bill based on 2003-04 school property tax rates," Assessor Levinson stated. "Surprisingly, almost 42% of homeowners in the District never applied for Basic STAR."
To accomplish his goal to help all eligible Nassau County homeowners ease their school property tax burden, Assessor Levinson will be holding a series of community outreach meetings throughout the County and an aggressive mailing campaign to focus attention on this valuable property tax relief program. In addition, Assessor Levinson has re-configured the Department of Assessment Website to allow residents to download the Basic STAR exemption form and allow - for the first time in County history - year-round filing for all property tax exemptions.
If you would like to obtain a copy of the Basic STAR application, please contact Nassau County Assessor Harvey Levinson at (516) 571-1500 or visit the County Website at www.nassaucountyny.gov. |
