(Mineola, New York) Nassau County Assessor Harvey Levinson will hold a public hearing on property tax issues on Saturday, March 12, from 1 - 4 p.m., at Nassau County's Legislative Chamber located at 1 West Street in Mineola.
Among the topics of discussion slated for Assessor Levinson's public hearing will be:
- Exploring the possibility of eliminating the residential portion of the school property tax and replacing it with a modest income tax.
- Examining the feasibility of creating a single commercial property tax rate for all school districts so that each can benefit from commercial properties throughout the county.
- Examining ways to consolidate many of the town's special districts so that all homeowners pay the same tax rate for services within the town.
- Urging the creation of a Governor-appointed bipartisan commission to study the residential income tax school funding proposal.
"It is my hope that my public hearing will serve as a catalyst for change, so that we can work together in a non-partisan manner to create a property tax system that is fair and equitable for all homeowners," concluded Assessor Levinson.
