Assessor Levinson Announces Adoption Of 2005-06 Final Assessment Roll

Media Contact: Randolph Yunker - (516) 571-2490

(Mineola, New York)  Assessor Harvey Levinson today announced that the Board of Assessors has unanimously adopted the 2005-2006 Property Assessment Roll for Nassau County.  The final total assessed market value for all classes increased over 37 billion dollars to $234,832,958,300, or 18.73%, over last year’s roll.

This year, as part of the New York State Supreme Court settlement, the level of assessment that will be applied on Class One (Residential) Properties to establish property tax rates is ½ %.  Assessor Levinson explained that if a house had an assessed market value of $400,000 last year, its assessed value for taxing purposes was set at 1 % or $4,000.  This year, the level of assessment of that home will be set at $2,000 for taxation purposes.  All other classes of properties will remain at 1 % for taxation purposes.

“While the Department of Assessment does not set operating budgets, mail out tax bills or collect taxes,” stated Assessor Levinson, “as a courtesy to all school districts throughout Nassau County, we will assist the districts in calculating their tax rates using the newly adopted assessed values and level of assessment when the voters approve this year’s operating budgets in May.”

Assessor Levinson indicated that the 2005-2006 Assessment Roll is available for inspection at the Nassau County Department of Assessment Offices located at 240 Old Country Road in Mineola, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. (Monday through Friday).
