(Mineola, NY)  Homeowners who have traveled to the county office building in Mineola to conduct business can attest to the fact, unless you have a full tank of gas, you are going to have a difficult time finding an open parking space.

Shortly after assuming office in January 2004, Nassau County Board of Assessors Chairman Harvey Levinson announced a program that permitted year-round filing for all property tax exemptions and placed a number of the exemptions applications on-line to help reduce the need for homeowners to travel to the county office building. In addition, he also recently activated an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) telephone system that permits callers to track the status of their exemptions applications any time during the day or night.

My goal has always been to find better ways to improve the delivery of government services,” stated Assessor Levinson. “Anyone who wishes to obtain, file or check on the status of a property tax exemption application need only to call the Department of Assessment at (516) 571-1500. Mail us your applications. You do not have to file for exemptions in-person!”

Assessor Levinson, who serves as the chief administrator of all of the County’s property tax relief programs, has helped tens of thousands of Nassau homeowners save hundreds of thousands of dollars off their property tax bills each year.

“With municipal, school and special taxing district spending increasing every year, many homeowners are finding it difficult to make ends meet and pay their property taxes,” stated Assessor Levinson. “That is why I encourage all homeowners to apply for the many property tax relief programs I administer.”

The deadline to file for property exemptions for the 2007-2008 school and county tax year is January 2. For further information, please call (516) 571-1500 or visit the Department of Assessment Website through www.mynassauproperty.com.
