DEPARTMENT OF ASSESSMENT IS LOOKING FOR SUMMER INTERNS
(Mineola, NY) Nassau County Board of Assessors Chairman Harvey Levinson today announced that he is seeking college students to work as paid interns at the Department of Assessment located at 240 Old Country Road in Mineola for the summer break.
“There is no teacher like experience,” said Chairman Levinson. “The summer internship program provides students with hands on experience in county government and an opportunity to work with our dedicated career public servants.”
The ten week internship program offers a flexible time schedule and an opportunity – in some cases – for a student to earn college credits. Interns can work up to 33 ¾ hours each week and earn up to $11 dollars per hour. Applicants should possess effective writing and computer skills, and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Bilingual students are encouraged to apply.
The Department of Assessment is responsible for administering all New York State Real Property Tax Exemptions, producing an assessment roll that reflects the fair market value of properties based on a specific point in time, and maintaining county parcel maps. Contrary to popular belief, the department does not set operating budgets or tax rates, mail out tax bills, or collect taxes. Its statutory function is to determine the assessed values of properties under a four-property class system that is mandated under Article 18 of the NYS Real Property Tax Law written in 1982.
College students who would like to be considered for the Department of Assessment’s paid summer internship program should forward their cover letter and resume by mail to 240 Old County Road, Room 400, Mineola, NY 11501 or via e-mail at ncassessor@nassaucountyny.gov. |
