Dear Friend:
Welcome to the 2006 Environmental Program Bond Act webpage. As a result of the success of the County’s initial $50 million Environmental Program Bond Act, on November 7th, the citizens of Nassau County overwhelmingly voted to approve a second Environmental Program in the amount of $100 million to preserve and protect Nassau County’s environmental assets. The Program authorizes the County to fund projects in four areas: open space and parkland acquisition, parkland improvement, storm water quality improvement and brownfield remediation.
I have appointed an Advisory Committee to develop a list of priority projects for funding under the Environmental Program. The Committee is chaired by Dr. Brian Muellers and consists of individuals who are well qualified to assess environmental projects in Nassau County.
The Advisory Committee will be conducting three public meetings, listed below, to inform the public about how to nominate properties or projects and how these nominations will be evaluated. You are invited to attend these meetings, provide comments and learn how to nominate properties or projects for funding.
Schedule of Public Meetings:

In an effort to generate a high turnout for these meetings, letters have been sent to all Nassau County Legislators, 64 Village Mayors, three Town Supervisors, the City Manager of Long Beach and the Mayor of the City of Glen Cove. In addition, letters and emails have been sent to over 800 environmental and civic organizations and a press release will be distributed to the full range of media organizations to inform the public. With your help, these meetings should be very well attended.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tom Maher, my Director of Environmental Coordination at (516) 571-1250 or his assistant, Brad Tito at (516) 571-5825.
Thank you for your interest and support of this program.
Sincerely,
Thomas R. Suozzi
