COUNTY CLERK ANNOUNCES EXPANDED SUPERSTORM SANDY RELIEF

(Mineola, NY)  As the first anniversary of Superstorm Sandy approaches, Nassau County Clerk and County officials have taken steps to secure additional relief for those affected.  Homeowners receiving aid through the Small Business Administration (SBA) were required by FEMA to record loans as mortgages with the County Clerk.  Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell worked with state law makers to waive the mandated fees and with the support of Governor Cuomo, New York State Senator Dean Skelos and Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg state legislation was passed.  Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano will sign local legislation supported by the County Legislature to bring this assistance to Nassau’s residents.

“While we can’t prevent these kind of disasters, we as local officials can do all we can to support our residents in their recovery efforts.  Every day I meet people coming into my office and hear their struggles to rebuild, and I knew I had to advocate for them.  I encourage these residents to contact my office so we can assist them with obtaining refunds.” O’Connell said.

Residents who have filed their SBA loans with the County Clerk should log onto the County’s website at http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/ and follow the link to the County Clerk’s page to obtain the appropriate form.  County Clerk O’Connell has also established a hotline at 516-571-1264 where residents can get additional information and assistance.
