The Good Deed Awards for Long Island Teenagers seeks each year to recognize young men and women for their outstanding acts of kindness in our communities. This year the 17th annual awards ceremony was held at the Supreme Court building in Mineola.

Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos recently attended the Westbury Soccer League 2000 Grand Soccer Inauguration at the Mitchell Athletic Complex in Uniondale. The 32 teams kicked off their season with a parade and a “best uniforms contest.”

On February 1st 1960 four students from the Agricultural & Technical College of North Carolina staged a lunch counter sit-in that helped end segregation nationwide. 5th and 4th grade students from the Barack Obama Elementary school re-enacted the scene as part of the commemoration.
