WEITZMAN: ‘YOUR NASSAU-RX DISCOUNT CARD IS WAITING FOR YOU’
Many Nassau County residents could be saving up to 24%
on prescription drug costs-- They only need apply!
Who wouldn’t like to put $22 in their own pocket, rather than hand it over to pay top retail prices for a prescription drug? That could be the difference when purchasing a month’s supply of one leading prescription drug with a NassauRxCard and without. Many Nassau County residents are missing out on an opportunity to get that discounted price by neglecting to apply for their FREE NassauRx prescription drug discount card. According to Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman, who implemented the successful program in 2003, card holders can save an average of 24 percent on almost all prescription medications, and up to 50 percent on generic drugs, at more than 90 percent of Nassau pharmacies. The NassauRx card is available to all Nassau residents, regardless of age, income, or insured status and requires no enrollment forms or fees. Program forms are processed by the pharmacist.
To date, the Nassau RxCard Program has saved Nassau residents more than $8 million dollars since it began three years ago and the program costs county taxpayers nothing.
"The NassauRx card provides a great discount, averaging 24 percent, for those who do not have drug insurance," said Weitzman.
The NassauRx program is the largest one of its kind in the nation. The governments of New York City and Los Angeles have worked with the comptroller’s office to see how they could implement programs similar to NassauRx. Many other counties in New York State and around the country have already adopted their own versions of the program.
