COMPTROLLER WEITZMAN & STAFF CITED FOR
EXCELLENCE IN FINANCIAL REPORTING
Nassau Financial Report Receives Award from Gov’t Finance Officers Association
For the 6th consecutive year under Comptroller Howard Weitzman’s leadership, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has recognized Nassau County for excellence in financial reporting. The GFOA award is for excellence in the County’s 2006 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. The GFOA has awarded Nassau County its highest honor every year that Comptroller Weitzman has been in office.
Comptroller Weitzman accepted a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the non-profit professional association. According to the GFOA, “the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”
“The financial professionals in my office have once again been accorded this honor by the GFOA, the premier professional association in the field of government finance and I could not be any prouder,” Comptroller Weitzman said. “This award means that our financial statements have been judged by an impartial panel of our peers to meet the highest standards for accuracy. I extend my congratulations to the entire staff of the Comptroller’s Accounting Division, led by former Deputy Comptroller Randy Ghisone of Hicksville, who recently retired, and now led by Director of Accounting Kathy Kugler of Bellmore.”
Nassau County’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, issued last June, includes general-purpose financial statements, as well as the independent auditor’s report prepared by Deloitte & Touche, LLP.
