Winthrop-University Hospital and Nassau Comptroller George Maragos
Team Up to Keep Seniors on their Feet
Free classes for seniors and veterans will provide tips on
how to keep your balance and avoid dangerous falls
Mineola, NY- Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos and Winthrop-University Hospital will be offering free fall prevention classes for seniors and veterans beginning in late October. The classes will be held at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Registration is required as seating is limited.
Winthrop Wellness Community Outreach Center will be providing tips on how to strengthen your muscles, improve your flexibility, balance and mobility through music and exercise. Be Prepared for the winter months, and learn what to do if you fall.
Each year, one in three adults 65 and older falls due to lack of balance and strength, poor eye sight and other reasons, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Falls can cause moderate to severe injuries, from lacerations and bone fractures to head trauma, and increase the risk of early death.
"I am proud to partner with Winthrop-University Hospital for such a great cause," said Comptroller George Maragos. "I encourage all of our seniors and veterans to take advantage of this opportunity to extend their quality of life for years to come."
"Winthrop-University Hospital has had tremendous success helping a host of seniors through its fall prevention classes and we are pleased to partner with Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos to expand our program to this community," said John F. Collins, President & CEO of Winthrop.
