Comptroller Maragos and Staff Presented
with Excellence in Financial Reporting Achievement Award
for 3rd Straight Year
Mineola, NY- Nassau
County Comptroller George Maragos and his staff were
recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association
of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for excellence
in financial reporting for the third straight year.
The GFOA award is for excellence in the County’s
2011 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
Comptroller Maragos accepted a
Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial
Reporting from the non-profit professional association.
According to the GFOA, “the
Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition
in the area of governmental accounting and financial
reporting, and its attainment represents a significant
accomplishment by a government and its management.”
"During these difficult economic
times, where municipalities all across our country are
struggling to balance their budgets without raising taxes,
it is an honor that the GFOA recognizes the excellent
work the financial professionals in my office produce
year after year,” Comptroller
Maragos said. “This award means that our financial
statements have been judged by an impartial panel to
meet the highest standards for accuracy. I want to congratulate
the entire staff of the Comptroller’s Accounting
Nassau County’s Comprehensive
Annual Financial Report, issued last July, includes
general-purpose financial statements, as well as the
report prepared by Deloitte & Touche, LLP.
