|Q. How to register your vehicle with the NCTLC when your For Hire vehicle is licensed in a municipality within the County of Nassau?
A. The license base company must provide the NCTLC with a spreadsheet for all vehicles operating from their base, including make and model of the car, year of the car, license plate and VIN number on a disc. Additionally, a copy of each registration and insurance card must be submitted for each vehicle.

The fee for 2005 registration is $5.00 per vehicle, until May 6, 2005.
Q. How to register your For Hire vehicle with the NCTLC if your vehicle is licensed For Hire Vehicle within New York City, Westchester or Suffolk County?
A. The license base company must provide the NCTLC with a spreadsheet for all vehicles with the following information: the make and model of the car, year of the car, license plate and VIN number as well as your NYCTLC license number with expiration date on a disc. Additionally, a copy of each registration and insurance card must be submitted for each vehicle.
The NYS Law Chapter 430 of the Local Law of 2003 of the General Municipal Law authorized the County of Nassau to regulate the registration of Taxicabs, car services, Black Cars and Limousines by ordinance
The law reads as under:
A charge of $750.00 per vehicle shall be charged and $350.00 for all renewals per year. However with an exemption, that of a Jurisdiction outside the County of Nassau that reciprocates with the County in permitting taxicabs, limousines or livery vehicles register by Nassau County to operate within such jurisdiction the fee shall be $5.00
As a show of good faith by the County of Nassau, NCTLC will accept the above-mentioned jurisdiction for the 2004-2005 TLC Registration for a fee of $5.00. However, if by the end of May 6, 2005, no such reciprocate agreement is in affect, then all fees revert back to the law of $350.00 per vehicle with a $250.00 charge for each additional year.
The $5.00 fee shall remain in affect until May 6, 2005 at which time the grandfather period will be over.
Q. Does a NCTLC registration sticker mean that I am now a licensed FHV in the County of Nassau?
A. NO! The NCTLC is authorized to regulate the registration of all FHV operating in Nassau County. Your local municipality must still license you.
Q. Can I still register my FHV with the NCTLC if I live or work in a municipality that does not license FHV’s?
A. Yes! However, it must be understood that a registration does not act as a license and the fee for this would be $350.00 for the first year, $250.00 for each additional year. Additionally, the owner/drive must complete a background investigation, including a urine test and fingerprints at the applicant's expense.
Q. Will I have to renew my NCTLC registration every year if I am a licensed FHV with Nassau County?
A. Yes, each registration is on a yearly basis.
Q. How many times a year am I required to have my For Hired Vehicle inspected?
A. In Nassau County, you are required to have a yearly NYS Inspection as well as a inspection when required by your local licensing municipality.
However, any FHV registered with NCTLC can, at the discretion of a TLC enforcement officer or at the discretion of your licensing agency, request additional inspections for safety needs.
Q. What does the NCTLC registration look like?
Q. Are any of the License/registered For Hired Vehicles operating in the County of Nassau allowed to accept a street hail?
A. No! Pick up of all passengers must be on a pre-arranged agreement or in an authorized taxi stand, bus station, train station or a mall taxi stand
Q. Who will be conducting enforcement on the FHV’s operating in the County of Nassau?
A. The NCPD as well as the local police departments have the authority to conduct car stops on a FHV when a violation is observed. Additionally the NCTLC officers/investigators have the authority to enforce state and local laws as well as TLC and OCA rules and regulations and are empowered to conduct safety checks on FHV’s. To ensure compliance with license’s, registration, insurance are in affect as well as for the safety of drivers and passengers even when no violation is observed, e.g. checkpoints, safety checks, etc.
