MINEOLA, N.Y., August 7, 2002 - Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi, Suffolk County Executive Robert Gaffney, and Long Island Convention and Visitors Bureau & Sports Commission President Michael Hollander today held a press conference at Jones Beach in order to promote the ongoing "Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard" campaign. The campaign features the "Fun on LI" and "FunCard" promotions, and the focus will now turn to what Long Islanders can do once the summer is over.
Dressed in "touristy" clothing and surrounded by various props illustrating the wealth of resources and attractions on Long Island, Mr. Suozzi and Mr. Gaffney spoke about what their respective counties have to offer tourists. Mr. Hollander also announced the launching of two "Be a Tourist…" radio advertisements featuring Mr. Suozzi, Mr. Gaffney, and himself.
"I am very pleased to be a part of the 'Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard' campaign," said Mr. Suozzi. "Long Island offers a wealth of attractions and resources that are among the best in the nation, and it is essential that Long Islanders are aware of them."
