Suozzi Announces $10 Million Revenue Enhancement Plan for County Parks and Museums

Uniondale, NY - Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi and Parks Commissioner Doreen Banks announced today a $10 million revenue enhancement plan for over twenty County parks and museum facilities. The plan seeks to both generate increased revenue and enhance services to the public.

"Let me be clear, we are not privatizing our county parks system," said County Executive Suozzi. "Rather, we are looking for ways to create public/private partnerships in order to rebuild the dilapidated infrastructure of our parks. We seek help and input from every county resident.

Tom Suozzi

We have incredible assets in our 6,000 acre Parks System, from Gold Coast Mansions listed on the National Historic Register to south shore ocean beaches. But unfortunately they are a well-kept secret. Many of our residents don't know we have an Aquatic Center in Eisenhower Park that is the largest competitive swimming facility in the Northern Hemisphere."

Commissioner Doreen Banks added, "by soliciting input through Requests for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) from civic groups, elected officials, recreational industry professionals and the general public, we hope to discover what their priorities are for the future. In so doing, we will both improve our parks and increase revenue."

Examples of short-term initiatives of the Plan are: today's issuance of twelve RFEI's inviting public input on facilities including Nickerson Beach and the Aquatic Center, acceptance of credit cards in the Parks system, target marketing to our wide range of audiences, active solicitation of grants and corporate sponsorships for events, venue signage and naming rights and official product marketing.
