Nassau County Road Transfer a Go
Mineola, New York - County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi and Leg. Lisanne Altmann (D-Great Neck), after several years of inefficiencies and wasted tax dollars, have successfully worked with Mayor Steve Falk to come up with a comprehensive plan that will transfer the ownership of Middle Neck Road and seven other County roads, located in the Village of Great Neck, to the Village of Great Neck.
The transfer is viewed as a benefit by both sides because it will save money, time and frustration for both the County and the Village. The County is relieved of the duty to maintain the roads and will save about $179,000 per year from the transfer.
"I am very pleased about this exciting opportunity for the County and the Village of Great Neck," the County Executive said. "The transfer of the roadways is a terrific opportunity for both sides and we would like to see this become a reality for other villages throughout the County as well."
"This is something that we have been working towards for the last five to six years," Mayor Falk said. "Through the good office of County Executive Suozzi this has come to pass and we thank him very, very much for his help."
"This measure begins to fulfill the promise of consolidating County services and represents a win-win situation for Nassau," said Legislator Altmann. "This gives the Village of Great Neck more control and saves the County money."
The County Executive also acknowledged that due to overlapping jurisdictions, the transfer of County roadways would also benefit other Villages and municipalities and he welcomes the opportunity to work with them on this matter. The seven other County roadways to be transferred are Fairview Avenue, Beach Road, Forest Row, Maple Street, Memorial Street, North Road and Red Brook Road. The responsibilities now being assumed by the Village Of Great Neck include plowing, salting and sanding and future resurfacing. However, the County did agree to resurface Middle Neck Road and Fairview Avenue one last time.
