Suozzi, Balboni Host Regional Homeland Security and Counter-terrorism Summit

Carle Place, N.Y.-- Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi and New York State Senator Michael Balboni today hosted a Regional Homeland Security and Counter-terrorism Summit for over 50 local and regional law enforcement agencies. The summit is designed to enhance existing security measures and to exchange strategies and concerns within the major metropolitan area.

"This conference reinforces the importance of working together to ensure our residents are always protected," said County Executive Suozzi. "Preparation, planning and a proactive response are essential to our safety and well-being."

The summit brings together Village, Town, County, State and Federal law enforcement agencies including the FBI, United States Secret Service, United States Marshal's Office, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, the DEA, and the United States Customs and Immigration Office. One of the largest agencies attending is the United States Coast Guard, which now serves under the Department of Homeland Security.

QUOTE FROM BALBONI:

"The Regional Homeland Security and Counter-terrorism Summit marks the first time these agencies have gathered for the purpose of exchanging ideas and resources about homeland security in the metropolitan region."
