Medicaid Petition

Please read the Medicaid petition and complete the form at the end and press "submit". This signifies your signing of the petition. The petition will be sent to the Governor, our State Senators, and our State Assembly Members.

Spiraling Medicaid costs are placing an unfair burden on our Community. New York is the only state in the nation that shifts a large portion of Medicaid costs to counties. In Nassau County Medicaid costs have increased by 53% in the past five years. This growth rate is unsustainable and a threat to the financial wellbeing of the County and its residents.

Providing health care to our poor is a goal that should not be abandoned. However, how we finance and control this program must also be fair to those who must pay for it.

Many solutions have been suggested to the challenge of sustaining Medicaid. Our County Executive, The New York Association of Counties, The Senate Medicaid Reform Task Force, and others have presented options they believe will help solve the problem.

The following options should be considered for immediate enactment:

  1. Cap counties local share of Medicaid costs at the current level
  2. Complete funding of Medicaid by the State
  3. Control Pharmaceutical Costs
  4. Coordination of care for the elderly, blind, and disabled

While the preceding options all have implications for the State and its finances, the alternative of maintaining the current system will certainly financially ruin the Counties and the State. There must be the political will in Albany to enact solutions. You (Governor, State Senators and Assemblymen) must bring Medicaid costs under control before the out of control Medicaid costs force the taxpayers and businesses to leave the state.
