Suozzi Announces 650 New Names to be Inscribed on Walls of Honor Memorial

East Meadow , N.Y- Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi, joined by Legislator Diane Yutuaro (D-Glen Cove) and Legislator Lisanne Altman (D-Great Neck), hosted a ceremony today at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow unveiling another 650 names inscribed on the Nassau County “Walls of Honor” Memorial, which was funded by private donations.
The memorial is an on-going project in Eisenhower Park that already has over 5,500 veteran’s names and will continue until every Nassau County veteran’s name or Merchant Mariner's name, living or dead, is inscribed. About 2000 people attended today’s event.
“I am proud to honor our brave Nassau County service men and woman who have given their lives to protect our country,” County Executive Suozzi said. “Inscribing their names on these monuments is a very appropriate way of showing our gratitude for their courage and sacrifice.”
The County Executive also unveiled the name of his father, Judge Joseph Suozzi, a WWII veteran. Judge Suozzi was a B-24 navigator, a member of the Distinguished Flying Cross, received numerous air medals, and was involved in 35 air missions over Europe.
"I admire the dedication that our Veterans have shown in making this project become a reality, said" Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury).
"This memorial is a steady reminder of the valor, duty and sacrifice that these brave men and women demonstrated while protecting our country," said Legislator Lisanne Altmann (D-Great Neck).
