Mineola, N.Y. -- Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi was joined today by District Attorney Kathleen Rice and Police Commissioner James H. Lawrence today to announce increased drunk driving patrols in Nassau County for the Thanksgiving weekend. Beginning on Friday, November 24, 2006 and continuing through Saturday, November 25, 2006, the Nassau County Police Department’s Highway Patrol Bureau will coordinate a STOP- DWI enforcement patrol throughout Nassau County utilizing all of the county’s eight police precincts.  This enforcement is made possible through grant money.

“Drunk driving is a destructive and potential deadly mistake. The harm that can be caused by intoxicated drivers is irreparable and everyone should understand that there is a zero tolerance policy in Nassau County,” said the County Executive.  “We want people to enjoy themselves but remember to be safe and avoid operating any motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.”

Police Commissioner Lawrence said, “This campaign is aimed at identifying and apprehending alcohol impaired drivers, traveling on our roadways in the county.  Police patrol will be on the lookout for individuals who are driving erratically and these individuals will be prosecuted to the fullest.”
