The Third Squad reports the arrest of Torin E. Bobo, age 33, of 233B Siegel Street, Westbury, NY, on Sunday evening, July 29, 2007.

At approximately 8:57 p.m. outside a delicatessen at 1001 Prospect Avenue, New Cassel, NY, the owner of a 1998 Mercedez Benz observed the defendant inside his vehicle attempting to steal it. Third Precinct Police Officers Hector Bourren, Jacqueline Jacobs, David Re and Dong Zhao responded to the scene and conducted an investigation of the incident. While attempting to place the defendant under arrest, he became combative and struggled with the officers placing all of them in the westbound lanes of Prospect Avenue. While refusing to be handcuffed the defendant continued to fight with the officers. During the arrest attempt the four officers and the defendant were struck by a 1998 Mazda Protégé operated by a 62-year-old female driving westbound on Prospect Avenue. The defendant was finally subdued and taken into custody.

The officers and the defendant were transported to the Nassau University Medical Center. Officer Re was admitted and treated for a broken left ankle, lacerations and bruising. Officer Jacobs was admitted suffering a fracture to her spine, a bruised kidney and lacerations. Officer Zhao was treated and released suffering a sprained left wrist, lacerations and bruising. Officer Bourren was treated and released sustaining bruising and lacerations to his left hip and right knee. The defendant was also treated and released suffering lacerations and bruises.

Mr. Bobo was then transported to the Third Squad where he was processed and charged with four counts of Assault 2nd Degree, one count of Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, one count of Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and one count of Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead, NY, on Monday, July 30, 2007.

No charges have been filed against the operator of the Mazda Protégé, Marilyn Thomas of Hempstead.
