Westbury, N.Y - Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi joined the Red Cross to discuss the County's hurricane preparedness plan. As Long Island moves deeper into hurricane season and local media increases its attention to it, it is becoming apparent that many Long Islanders are unaware of steps being taken to prepare the island.

"Given our location as an island left vulnerable to the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island is very susceptible to the powerful and destructive nature of hurricanes. Taking precautions now will ensure that you are well-protected and prepared in the event that a hurricane hits Long Island," said County Executive Suozzi. "At the county level, we are making all necessary preparations for the upcoming hurricane season. We’ve identified shelters for our vulnerable populations, as well as for members of general population should the need arise. And we’re taking the steps necessary to ensure that all our emergency communications systems remain up and running.”

"We are going into the heart of this season more prepared than ever," said Frank Cassano, CEO of the Nassau Red Cross. "By working together, with a shared sense of urgency, Nassau County and the Nassau Red Cross are making Western Long Island a much safer place to live, work and play."
