"Operation Clean Sweep" Gets Violent Criminals off the Streets

Over 50 fugitives arrested on outstanding warrants

Mineola, NY - Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi announced today that 52 individuals, all with outstanding arrest warrants were apprehended in overnight raids throughout the County last night. "Operation Clean Sweep" proved to be a success in nabbing dozens of people who have committed a variety of felonies or misdemeanors.

Under the direction of Chief of Detectives Division, Herbert Faust and the commanding officers of the Detectives Squads, several public safety offices participated in "Operation Clean Sweep", which covered all of Nassau County.

"Nassau County has the lowest crime rate of any municipality over one million people for a reason. We have zero tolerance for any type of crime committed here. Today's round-up proves that if there is a warrant out for your arrest, the Nassau County Police Department will find you, arrest you and ensure that you are prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law."

The Police Department periodically performs surprise raids throughout the year, which have proven to be an effective tool in apprehending fugitives. Today's arrests were based on a multitude of crimes including: driving while intoxicated (DWI), grand larceny, auto theft, drug trafficking, bail jumping, forgery and several other quality-of-life crimes.

"I want to thank Commissioner Lawrence and every department involved in this operation. Our police officers do an incredible job at keeping our residents safe and criminals in jail."
