Fann Sentenced to 23-life

Defendant pleaded guilty to killing former girlfriend

MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced that Marlon Fann was sentenced today by Judge David Sullivan to twenty-three-years-to-life for the June killing of his former girlfriend, Merline Port-Louis, outside her New Cassell home.  In December, Mr. Fann pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A Felony.

On June 18, 2005, at approximately 2:35 a.m., Marlon Fann approached Merline Port-Louis, 23, in the driveway outside her New Cassel home. Mr. Fann shot and killed Ms. Port-Louis, who was his former girlfriend and the mother of their 3-year-old daughter. The child was asleep in the home. Before the murder, Mr. Fann called the mother of the victim, threatening to kill her daughter. After the shooting, Mr. Fann called Ms. Port-Louis’ mother again and bragged that he had, in fact, killed her daughter. Mr. Fann was apprehended after a five-day manhunt attempting to flee authorities in an apartment in Jamaica, Queens.

Mr. Fann was indicted by a Grand Jury on the Murder charge August 8 of last year.

Handling the case for the District Attorney’s Office was the Major Offense Bureau Chief, Fred Klein.
