DA Announces Vehicle Auction

62 forfeited vehicles to be auctioned off May 24

MINEOLA - Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice and the Nassau County Police Department announced today that a motor vehicle auction will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, beginning at 10 a.m. The auction will take place at the Eighth Precinct of the Nassau County Police Department, located at 286 Wantagh Avenue, Levittown. Vehicles will be available for inspection at that site beginning at 8:30 A.M.

A total of 62 vehicles will be auctioned, including a 2002 BMW, 2001 Mercedes Benz, 2001 Toyota, 2000 Mercury, 2000 Nissan, ‘99 Lexus, ‘94 BMW and of special interest, a 1995 Ford E150 handicap-equipped van with hand-controls and lift.

According to District Attorney Rice, “The vehicles are assets forfeited from defendants arrested by the Nassau County and local Police and successfully prosecuted by my office. The money raised from the auction will go to the County and State to benefit the law-abiding public. Forty two (42) of the vehicles were seized from DWI offenders, eleven (11) from those who sold and possessed controlled substances, five (5) from burglary, robbery and larceny defendants, one (1) from a defendant who violated the Tax Laws and three (3) from such assorted crimes as assault, promoting gambling, and criminal mischief.”
