Insurance Agent Pleads Guilty to Grand Larceny

Locust Valley man stole $668k from employer

MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced today that Stuart Hartmeyer, 44, has pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a Class C felony, and Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree, a Class E felony, in Nassau County Court Friday. Mr. Hartmeyer stole more than $668,000 from his employer, Geo V. Bullen and Son, Inc. of Great Neck, NYn and its clients.

On February 7, 2006, the defendant was arrested by the Crimes Against Property Squad of the Nassau County Police Department. Mr. Hartmeyer was accused of forging refund checks from the company and falsifying business records and bank deposit slips to cover his fraud.

“Ripping off your employer and compromising the insurance policies of your clients is a serious crime,” said District Attorney Rice. “We held this defendant to the top charge and believe he should go to prison.”

At the time of the plea, the District Attorney recommended Mr. Hartmeyer receive two-to-six years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced September 19 by Judge Edward Maron.

Assistant District Attorney Christine Burke of the District Attorney’s Government and Consumer Frauds Bureau is handling the case for the prosecution. Mr. Hartmeyer is being represented by Gregory Naclerio, Esq.
