Mineola Man Caught by “Operation Teensaver”
DA’s Investigators Catch Another Online Predator
MINEOLA, NY - Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced today that Scott Widom, 44, was arrested and charged with two counts of Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors in the First Degree, a Class E felony. He was arraigned yesterday in First District Court, Hempstead.
The court set bail at $25,000 bond, $12,500 cash, which the defendant posted yesterday evening.
The charges stem from sexually-explicit conversations over America Online’s Instant Messaging service Mr. Widom had with a Nassau County District Attorney Investigator this past March.
The defendant was arrested Sunday night while appearing at a pre-arranged meeting location in Nassau County. At the time of his arrest, Nassau County District Attorney Investigators did not find anything in his possession consistent with engaging in sexual activity that evening.
Mr. Widom consented to the search of his residence, an upstairs apartment in Mineola. DA Investigators seized his personal computer and dozens of compact discs, which are being analyzed.
Mr. Widom is employed as a delivery and counter person at the Roslyn Kosher Foods Deli located at 1044 Willis Ave, Albertson.
ADA Stephen Treglia, Chief of the Technology Crimes Unit is handling the case for the District Attorney’s Office.
The defendant’s next court date is July 27 in front of Judge Kase.
The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
