District Attorney and EOC Host Job Fair
Rice: “Invest in kids, neighborhoods”
MINEOLA - Dozens of employers will be participating today in a Job Fair in Hempstead being sponsored by Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice and the Nassau County Economic Opportunity Commission. In April, a similar event matched nearly 370 participants with employers.
The fair will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at EOC headquarters, 134 Jackson Street, Hempstead.
“One thing we know for certain is that when a community has employers and a family has a job, crime goes down and kids have a chance to succeed. These fairs are an important tool in breaking the cycle of poverty, allowing neighborhoods to thrive, and giving a community hope,” said Rice.
The job fair is funded through a grant that the District Attorney obtained from the federal government and shared with the EOC who manages the project. Thus far, 32 employers have registered for the fair and are looking for employees. Employers will be coming from a variety of fields including government, banks, health services, hotels, department stores and supermarkets.
District Attorney Rice has made community outreach a central theme of her term in office. In addition to the job fairs, the District Attorney has committed to additional resources for her outreach programs and has highlighted Community Prosecution as a goal during her first term.
“If we are serious about long term, comprehensive approaches to fighting crime, we must be willing to invest in our kids and invest in our neighborhoods,” said Rice.
