Hempstead man stole laptop computers from office building and credit union
MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced today that a career criminal with 99 arrests on his rap sheet was sentenced to 12 to 24 years in prison yesterday for a string of burglaries in the Garden City area
Cedric McCants, 53, of Hempstead pleaded guilty to all six counts of Burglary in the Third Degree July 14. McCants was arrested January 14 in connection with a string of burglaries at several medical and law offices in the Garden City area.
Rice said that from October to December 2007, McCants entered a Garden City credit union once and an East Garden City office building five times and broke into various offices, stealing laptop computers.
“Mr. McCants is a walking, talking crime spree, and the only way to protect the residents of Nassau County is to put him behind bars,” Rice said.
Handling the case for the District Attorney’s Office is Assistant District Attorney Jessica Llewellyn of the DA’s County Court Bureau. McCants is being represented by Paul Zsuffa, Esq.
