Child Molester Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison
DA’s office convicts molester of 6-year-old; judge sends Johnson to prison for 25 years
MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced today that a Nassau County judge has sentenced a child molester to 25 years in prison. Victor Johnson, 44, of Hobbsville, North Carolina, was convicted in August of sexually abusing the 6-year-old son of a friend. The more than two years of abuse occurred in a Hempstead home and three Nassau County hotels that the father and his son lived in.
Johnson was found guilty of one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Nassau County Judge Joseph Calabrese presided over the trial and the sentencing of the defendant.
“There is no more heinous crime than the abuse of a child,” said Rice following the sentencing. “This defenseless young boy will live for the rest of his life with what this coward did to him. I can only hope that he gets the help and love he needs and that he knows this man will never hurt him or any other child ever again. I will work day and night to keep Victor Johnson and guys like him in jail for the rest of their lives. The judge’s sentence sends a strong message that the court and the legal system listened, heard and believed this innocent child.”
Rice said that the father of the victim would leave his son, now 11, to be watched by Johnson in his home and in the hotel rooms they were living in. The father knew Johnson from their employment at a Hempstead car dealership. The victim now lives with his mother.
ADA Silvia Finkelstein of the DA’s Special Victims Bureau is handling the case for the District Attorney’s Office. Johnson is being represented by Michael Berger of the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County.
