Bronx Man Pleads Guilty to Burglary Charges in 2007 Garden City Home Invasion

Ulloa and accomplices robbed homeowners of $50,000 in cash, jewelry, and rare coins at gunpoint

MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced today that Domingo Ulloa has pleaded guilty to his role in a 2007 home invasion in Garden City that saw one resident tied up while another was forced to open safes in the home at gunpoint.

Ulloa, 36, of the Bronx pleaded guilty Monday to Burglary in the Second Degree.  On June 23, he is expected to be sentenced by Nassau County Judge John Kase to 14 years in prison.

Rice said that on September 14, 2007, Ulloa was one of a group of armed robbers that approached the victim as he headed for his car at approximately 6:25 a.m. They led the victim back into his Wickham Road home at gunpoint, where they tied up and ordered his girlfriend to lie face down on her bed. The male victim was forced to open a basement safe that contained cash and assorted jewelry and a second safe on the top floor of the house that contained assorted jewelry and rare coins. The burglars made off with approximately $50,000 worth of cash, coins, and jewelry.

A suspicious neighbor took down a partial license plate number and make and model of the getaway vehicle, which eventually lead to the arrests of three suspects.

In addition to Ulloa, who was arrested Sept. 20, 2007, two other men have been charged and convicted by the DA. Cruz Mateo, 24, of the Bronx was arrested May 2, 2008.  Mateo later pleaded guilty to Burglary in the First Degree and is awaiting sentencing. Luis Cortez, 32, of the Bronx, was also arrested May 2, 2008. He pleaded guilty to Robbery in the Second Degree and in January he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

“There are few crimes I take a tougher stance on than the armed invasion of someone’s home,” said Rice.  “This defendant and his associates stole more than money from this family. They stole their peace of mind.  We built solid cases against these violent individuals and in end they had no choice but to take responsibility for what they have done.  For their crimes, all three of these men will be where they belong: behind bars for more than a decade.”

Assistant District Attorney Christopher Holbrook of the DA’s Major Offense Bureau is handling the case for the District Attorney’s Office. The defendant is represented by Oscar Holt, Esq.
