DA, Police and Long Island Restaurants Team Up to Fight DWI
Restaurants announce plan to donate percentage of profits to new anti-DWI group
MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice and Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey have teamed up with RADD president Brian Rosenberg and restaurant members of RADD to announce the restaurants' pledge to donate a portion of their Fourth of July weekend profits to Restaurants Against Drunk Driving and the anti-DWI group DedicateDD. The partnership was announced by Rice and Rosenberg at a press conference Thursday.
RADD was formed earlier this year by local hospitality consultant Brian Rosenberg. He said that the group will use the money raised this weekend to launch a Web site and to raise DWI awareness at restaurants across Long Island.
"We need restaurants to be part of the solution to fighting the DWI epidemic," said Rice. "I applaud their commitment to making our roads safer and I look forward to working with them as Nassau County continues to be a national leader in the fight against DWI."
"DWI enforcement has been one of my priorities since being appointed Police Commissioner in 2007," said Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey. "This Department will continue to be aggressive in our enforcement efforts to make our roadways safe from DWI offenders and we appreciate the cooperation and assistance of our local business community in this endeavor."
“With all the challenges the restaurant industry is facing, I applaud their effort in the fight against drunk driving,” said Brian Rosenberg. “We all realize the seriousness of this and we will band together to be leaders in our individual communities.”
