Hempstead Man Convicted of Attempted Murder, Four Counts of Robbery; Faces 100 Years in Prison
Henderson shot victim three times before carjacking him
MINEOLA, NY - Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced today that a Hempstead man has been convicted by a jury of shooting a man prior to carjacking him on a Hempstead street, as well as committing three other armed robberies during a two-month span in 2008.
The jury deliberated for two-and-a-half days before finding Christopher Henderson, 20, guilty of Attempted Murder, five counts of Robbery in the First Degree, two counts of Robbery in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree. Henderson faces up to 100 years in prison at his September 12 sentencing.
Rice said that on four separate dates from August to October 2008, Henderson, armed with a handgun, carjacked three victims and stuck up another on foot.
The date, time and location of each incident are:
- August 15, 2008 – Henderson carjacks victim and shoots him in the leg, chest, and buttocks in the vicinity of Linden Place at 11:44 p.m.
- August 31 – Carjacking in the vicinity of Evans Avenue at 1:28 p.m.
- September 9 – Stickup on foot on South Franklin Avenue at 5:30 p.m.
- October 14 – Carjacking in the vicinity of Linden Place at 2 a.m.
“The brazen violence and complete lack of remorse on the part of Mr. Henderson makes this guilty verdict all the more important,” Rice said. “The streets of Hempstead are safer without him.”
Handling the case for the DA’s office is Assistant District Attorney Michael Canty of the DA’s Major Offense Bureau. The defendant is represented by Joseph LoPiccolo, Esq.
