DILLON ANNOUNCES:

INDICTMENT OF MULUMBA KAZIGO ACCUSED OF MURDERING HIS FATHER

Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon announced today that a Grand Jury has indicted Mulumba Kazigo, 26, of Lincolndale, New York for the murder of his father Dr. Zirabamuzaale (Joseph) Kazigo on August 24, 2005. The charges included in the indictment are two counts of Murder in the Second Degree (intentional and felony), both Class A Felonies; one count of Burglary in the First Degree, a Class B Felony; and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Class E Felony.

According to Dillon, "The defendant in this case put a lot of time and effort into planning the execution of his father. On Tuesday, August 23, 2005, Mulumba purchased a variety of weapons including a baseball bat and sledge hammer. He then packed plastic bags and duct tape to wrap his fathers corpse and used a family car in order to utilize the trunk to transport his fathers body. The following day (August 24th), after his father returned to his rented apartment in Westbury, following a shift at Nassau University Medical Center (where he worked), Mulumba broke into the apartment by smashing a door window. He then beat his father with a baseball bat while he was sleeping and then cut his throat. Mulumba then dumped his fathers body and evidence in three different locations in order to cover up his fathers murder. Mulumba ultimately led police to his father’s remains in the woods of Lewisboro, Westchester County, which is just ten minutes from the Kazigo’s family home."

Kazigo will be arraigned on September 21, 2005 in Mineola. If convicted he faces up to 25 years to life in prison.

The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
