DILLON ANNOUNCES:

ANOTHER ROSLYN SCHOOL DISTRICT ARREST

Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon announced today the arrest of John McCormick, 40, of 15 Bay Street, Center Moriches for stealing approximately $85,000 from the Roslyn School District.

According to Dillon, "From November 1, 2000 to October 30, 2002, McCormick charged approximately $85,000 to the Roslyn School District’s Home Depot credit card for various purchases in connection with his business as a contractor. The purchases were made at eight (8) Home Depot stores in Nassau and Suffolk Counties and paid without the knowledge or authorization of Roslyn School District. The credit card had originally been given to McCormick by his mother, Pamela Gluckin, to pay for her home improvement expenses."

In October 2002 when questions arose about the expenditures at Home Depot McCormick and Gluckin created false documents to conceal his theft of the District’s money.

McCormick has been charged with Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree, a Class E Felony. He faces a maximum of 15 years in prison. He will be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.

"The investigation into the Roslyn School District is continuing and we do anticipate additional arrests," said Dillon.

"I would like to thank New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi and his staff for their assistance during the course of this investigation," Dillon concluded.

The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
