DILLON ANNOUNCES:

ARREST OF GLEN COVE RESIDENT FOR DEFRAUDING 17 INDIVIDUALS THROUGH INTERNET

Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon announced today that the DA’s Criminal Frauds Bureau has arrested Maren Kozbial, 24, of 1442 Avalon Square, Glen Cove, formerly of Mineola, for defrauding 17 individuals.

According to Dillon, "While living in Mineola, Kozbial offered bulk-quantity designer clothing for sale over her own web sites of ‘R and M Accessories’ and ‘Angelic Distribution’ and by auction over the eBay website. From October, 2004, through August 2005, Kozbial accepted money for items she offered for sale and then failed to deliver the promised goods. Our investigators have identified 17 victims of this scheme. The total loss to the 17 victims is in excess of $27,000."

Some examples of Kozbial’s fraud include:

A resident of Somerset, England purchased 25 Abercrombe and Fitch jackets for $697.18, paid by American Express, through an e-Bay auction. The victim never received the merchandise. The eBay seller’s screen name was "EZStreet41". That screen name belongs to Kozbial.

A resident of Kansas City, Missouri, purchased 3 Gucci and 2 Prada bags for $1,422.50 through the R an M Accessories website and never received the merchandise.

A resident of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, purchased 7 items of Tumi luggage from the R and M Accessories website for $3,011 and never received the merchandise.

A resident of Johannesburg, South Africa, purchased 5 Gucci bags from the Rand M Accessories website for $1,170 and never received the merchandise.

A resident of Valley College, New York, purchased 84 pairs of designer jeans from the Angelic Distribution Website for $4,992.80 and never received the merchandise.

Kozbial has been charged with one count of Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree, a Class E Felony, punishable by up to four years in prison. Kozbial will be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.

The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
