Nassau County's Capital Program, which is administered by the Department of Public Works, is comprised of over 300 capital projects, which range from improvements to County roads, parks, sewers, and buildings, to purchasing new equipment and technology, all of which improves the quality of life for residents of Nassau County.
Capital projects are those that represent a major investment in County assets. In Nassau County, projects may be included in the capital budget if their cost exceeds $100,000 and the useful life exceeds 5 years. The capital budget funds projects that are not included in the operating budget due to their high cost and irregular occurrence. Capital Projects are major physical improvements such as construction, renovation, or acquisition of buildings or property or purchases of long-lived equipment or technology assets.
