INFORMATION RESOURCE AND REFERRAL SERVICES

A full range of informational services is provided by the Information, Resource and Referral Services Unit to all residents of Nassau County; those receiving assistance, as well as self-supporting individuals.  Information is provided about the services offered by the Department, as well as human services provided by Nassau County’s many public and private helping agencies.  This unit provides immediate crisis and emergency intervention.  The crisis may include homelessness, domestic violence, child or elder abuse, Medicaid, Food Stamps, employment and fuel services.

A referral to this unit may be made by mail, telephone, or walk-in to our Department at:

during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.  At night, from 4:45 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., on week-ends and holidays the Emergency Night Services Unit may be reached at (516) 572-3143 and can provide the same services.   A caseworker will be ready to assist you in any way she/he can.  Confidentiality is protected.
