The Community Development Corporation of Long Island (CDC) is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting job creation and community economic development by making equity investments, grants and loans to small businesses that do not qualify for financing from traditional sources. CDC also promotes development and rehabilitation of housing and shelter, serving community needs that are not met by the private sector, which in turn helps empower, organizations in low and moderate-income areas to improve their neighborhoods. The Long Island Development Corporation (LIDC) is a not-for-profit membership organization that provides financial and technical assistance to small businesses on Long Island. Its main goal is to encourage economic stability and growth on the Island by supporting businesses and creating jobs. Certified under Section 503/504 of the United States Small Business Act of 1958, LIDC functions as a regulated lending agency, making loans to small businesses undergoing capital expansion. Loans may be used to acquire, rehabilitate, expand and/or improve real estate, and machinery and equipment may also be financed. LIDC can also provide working capital. Alongside its financial assistance programs, LIDC offers small businesses technical assistance, active counseling and interaction with other agencies.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) was created in 1953 as an independent agency of the federal government with the responsibility for ensuring the availability of long-term technical assistance and financing for small businesses in the nation. Its mission is to assist, aid, counsel and protect the interests of small businesses throughout the country, to preserve free competitive enterprise, and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of the nation. Among the SBA's main goals are to advise and counsel small businesses through the services of the Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), and the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE). Also, the SBA provides Loan Guaranty Programs, which can fund the varied financing needs of small businesses where financing is otherwise unavailable, through normal lending channels, on reasonable terms.
