Regionally Significant Projects
- Some businesses located outside the separate and distinct contiguous areas of the Empire Zone may be eligible to receive EZ benefits. These are called “Regionally Significant Projects” (RSPs).
- The local EZ must demonstrate the project cannot be accommodated within the separate and distinct contiguous areas of the EZ. (Manufacturers creating 50+ jobs are exempt from this provision)
- RSPs will not be counted against EZ total acreage requirement.
- Local law and (as needed) concurring resolutions are required to implement RSPs.
Eligible Regionally Significant Projects include:
- Manufacturers creating 50+ jobs
- Agri-business, high-tech, bio-med businesses: creating 20+ jobs and making an investment of at least $10 million over
- Financial, insurance, distribution businesses: creating 300+ jobs
- Clean Energy Research and Development Enterprise
- Other projects (business industries) to be defined by Empire State Development via rules and regulations.
