Nassau County Assists Local Minority Owned Business In Expansion
Peoples Choice Surgical Supply Prepares to Break Ground

For immediate release:  Monday, October 17, 2005

(Hempstead, N.Y.) – County Executive Thomas Suozzi was joined by Deputy County Executive for Economic Development Patrick Duggan and Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne Hall, Jr. to announce the construction of a new state of the art facility for Peoples Choice Surgical Supply. PCSP is a successful Minority/Woman Owned Enterprise that has outgrown its present location. Also present to congratulate Cynthia and David Williams, President and Vice President of Peoples Choice Surgical Supply, was Nassau County Legislature Deputy Presiding Officer Roger Corbin and County Legislator Kevan Abrahams.

“The recruitment and retention of successful small business, such as Peoples’ Choice Surgical Supply, is essential to the economic viability of Nassau County”, said Suozzi.  “This is a terrific example of Nassau County working collectively with a successful minority-owned business while at the same time redeveloping an eye-sore into a beautiful new state of the art facility”, stated the County Executive.

The new location, 389 Peninsula Boulevard in the Village of Hempstead, will have a Drug Store, medical clothing shop, a warehouse and office space.  At present the building is a little less than 10,000 sq ft.  Peoples Choice is in the process of proposing to extend the facility to almost 20,000 sq ft.  The company financed the project with a direct loan from Banco Popular and the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) was able to assist People’s Choice with a PILOT (Payment In Lieu of Taxes) agreement, a sales tax exemption and a mortgage recording abatement on the new building and the existing building saving the company over $1 million.   The loan closed with the IDA on May 16th 2005.

“The Nassau County Economic Development Office is proud to be able to assist good neighbors like the Williams in the expansion of their thriving business. Businesses like People’s Choice Surgical help drive the economic engine of the county,” stated Deputy County Executive Duggan.
