Almost 200 teenagers will participate in a Pre-World AIDS Day Conference and interactive workshops to hear about the progress made in the battle against the HIV epidemic and to reinforce the dangers of risky personal behavior.

Facts:

• There are 3,414 known cases of AIDS in Nassau County
• The CDC estimates that 1/3 of people infected with HIV do not know their status
• There is still no cure for AIDS
• HIV has increasingly become a woman's disease
• Heterosexual contact is the greatest risk for women
• Racial and ethnic minorities are disproportionately affected
