Almost 200 teenagers will participate in a Pre-World AIDS Day Conference and interactive workshops to hear about the progress made in the battle against the HIV epidemic and to reinforce the dangers of risky personal behavior.
Facts:
- There are 3,414 known cases of AIDS in Nassau County
- The CDC estimates that 1/3 of people infected with HIV do not know their status
- There is still no cure for AIDS
- HIV has increasingly become a woman's disease
- Heterosexual contact is the greatest risk for women
- Racial and ethnic minorities are disproportionately affected
