Health Department Seeks Volunteers for the Medical Reserve Corps
The Nassau County Department of Health is seeking practicing or retired medical professionals, including doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physicians assistants, veterinarians and others, as well as students in the health professions, to volunteer for the Medical Reserve Corps
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a network of community-based volunteer units, created to help their own communities to prepare for, and respond to, large-scale emergencies, such as an influenza epidemic, chemical spill or act of terrorism.
The first response to any disaster is a local response. Being prepared to handle a large-scale emergency is a challenge for any community. MRC volunteers help their communities mobilize quickly to minimize disability, death and emotional trauma resulting from a major emergency.
If you have a medical background and have time to devote to a small number of planning meetings, training and mock emergency drills, consider joining the Medical Reserve Corps. Enjoy a sense of achievement and satisfaction as well as possibly helping your family, friends and neighbors.
