Exciting Community Service / Job Opportunities for Teens
The Nassau County Department of Health is looking for young adults, ages 16 or 17, to help with tobacco sales compliance inspections (stings) at various tobacco retail establishments throughout Nassau County. The sale of cigarettes or other tobacco products to people under 18 years of age is a violation of New York State Law.
Any resident of Nassau County who is 16 or 17 years old may participate in the program. Most teens work one or two days a month for three to four hours each day. Compliance checks are not done in the teen’s own neighborhood, and parental permission is required.
The teenagers in the program can be paid for their hours, or they can participate as volunteers. Many choose to use this volunteer experience as community service to help fulfill their high school requirements.
For details on this program, contact the Nassau County Department of Health between 9:30 AM and 4 PM weekdays at (516) 571-3232.
