Rodent and Insect Control
WARNING: New York State Department of Environmental Conservation law requires that the application of all pesticides be done by state-certified pest control operators only.
HOW CAN WE CONTROL RATS AND MICE?
- Get rid of their nesting places with proper sanitation.
Clean up all piles of rubbish, inside and outside the premises. Check for burrows and hiding places.
- BUILD THEM OUT
Block all possible rodent entrances.
Rodent-proof foundations (close all possible hiding places).
- STARVE THEM OUT
Protect food at night.
Keep garbage containers closed. Do a thorough clean-up job.
- KILL THEM
- Chemical rodenticides may only be applied by certified pest control operators.
- Certification is not required for the use of mechanical devices such as snap traps, glue boards, and live catch traps.
HOW CAN WE CONTROL FLIES?
- GET RID OF THEIR BREEDING PLACES
Control the sources.
- KEEP THEM OUT
Screen doors and windows properly.
See that all doors open out and are self-closing.
- DO A GOOD JOB HOUSEKEEPING
Keep foods covered.
Keep garbage containers clean and sealed.
Remove food accumulations promptly.
- KILL THEM
Chemical insecticides may only be applied by certified applicator.
Certification is not required for the use of fly strips and light traps, but must be used in areas away from food preparation and storage.
HOW CAN WE CONTROL COCKROACHES AND OTHER INSECTS?
- Be alert to first signs of infestation. Eliminate infested foods.
- Sanitation is the key to roach control.
- Chemicals applied by certified applicator only.
