Quit Yet?
The Great American Smokeout is the perfect time to Quit!

Over 10 million Americans are expected to participate in the Great American Smokeout on Thursday, November 18, by smoking less or quitting.

The Nassau County Department of Health is ready to help anyone interested in ending the tobacco habit. Quitting is easier with support, and smokers can find help by calling the Department's tobacco cessation specialists or on the Internet at www.nysmokefree.com.

The department's services are free and are available to all county residents. Available services include information about tobacco use, telephone counseling, referrals to local cessation programs, and follow-up support. In partnership with the New York State Smoker's Quitline, tobacco cessation specialists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Living tobacco-free has many health benefits, including reduced blood pressure, lower risk of heart attack and coronary disease, reduced chance of throat cancer, clean lungs, and overall a better quality of life. Quitting is the first step to living a longer, healthier life. Smokers, who are trying to quit during the Great American Smokeout or any time, are encouraged to use any of the services available in the county to increase their chances for success.
